Bottle Painting Techniques

Have you ever wondered "how do you make something creative with plastic bottles"?  Well, I have a brilliant solution for you.  As I was refilling our bathroom soap dispenser and noticed we were running low, a question popped into my mind: "How do you recycle plastic in a creative way"?

This year, I embarked on a mission to give trash makeovers.  The thought of all the waste we were sending out each week made me cringe, so I decided to turn it all into treasure with my ingenious trash to treasure projects!

As you know, I have to let items sit for a minute before an idea filters through this old brain of mine.  I saw something on Pinterest a while back, where someone upcycled water bottles, and so an idea began to formulate in my mind.  I cannot take full credit for this one, but I took the reins and made it my own.

Benefits of DIY bottle crafts for home decor

When it comes to home decor, DIY bottle crafts offer numerous benefits that make them a popular choice among crafty folks. First and foremost, DIY bottle crafts allow you to express your creativity and personal style. By transforming empty bottles into unique decor items, you can add a personal touch to your living space and showcase your artistic flair. Moreover, DIY bottle crafts are a cost-effective way to upgrade your home decor.

Instead of spending a fortune on expensive store-bought items, you can repurpose and upcycle bottles that you already have at home. This not only saves money but also reduces waste and promotes sustainability. Additionally, DIY bottle crafts offer endless possibilities for customization. You can choose from a wide range of materials, colors, and techniques to create a one-of-a-kind piece that perfectly complements your existing decor. Whether you prefer a minimalist design or a bold statement piece, DIY bottle crafts allow you to tailor your creations to suit your individual taste and preferences.

First things first, I removed those pesky labels.  Ever noticed how easily plastic labels come off?  But the paper ones?  Oh boy, they can be quite stubborn!

Next, I decided to give the bottle a coat of white Waverly chalk paint.  Looking back, I realized I could have skipped this step, buy hey, you live and learn, right?

Now, time for some scrapbook paper fun!  I envisioned a reversible vase, so I delved into my stash of vintage inspired 12x12 scrapbook paper (which I'd been saving for ages, guilty as charged!).  I decided on a curvy design, because who doesn't love a bit of flair?  I freehandedly cut out the curves, but let's just say it was a creative adventure.  Maybe do some research before diving in headfirst, unlike me!  Mine look a little worse for the wear, but it turns out, I promise.

Creative Bottle Decor

With one template done, I created another curved vase and skillfully hot glued the sides together up until the first curve from the bottom.  Now came the exciting part - fitting the sleeve over the bottle!  I then hot glued the remainder of the way up the side of the vase, voila we have a vase!

Aside from the fact my sides were not perfect, I felt something was missing.  So off to my ribbon stash I dashed and grabbed some twine ribbon from Dollar Tree, though I ran out before completing both sides.  Typical, right?  No fear, in the basement, my craft table had a delightful surprise waiting - a brown and white polka-dotted ribbon that fit the bill perfectly!

Now that both sides were covered, I just had to find the ideal spot for my reversible vase.  Why not welcome guests at the entry and place it on our bench?  I must say, this bottle craft turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself!

Displaying and incorporating DIY bottle crafts into your home decor

Now that you have created stunning bottle crafts, it's time to find the perfect place to display them in your home.  Here are some ideas on how to incorporate your DIY bottle crafts into your existing decor:

1. Mantelpiece or Shelf Display: Arrange your bottle crafts on a mantelpiece or shelf to create an eye-catching display.  Vary the heights, shapes, and colors to add visual interest and create a focal point in the room.

2. Table Centerpiece: Use your bottle crafts as a centerpiece for your dining table or coffee table.  Arrange them with fresh flowers, greenery, or other decorative elements to create a striking and conversation-worthy display.  I would add Mod Podge to the exterior if placing real flowers with water into your new vase.

3. Wall Art: Hang your bottle crafts on the wall to create unique and personalized art pieces.  You can arrange them in a cluster or create a gallery wall using different sizes and shapes.

4. Outdoor Decor: Take your bottle crafts outdoors and use them to enhance your patio or garden decor.  Place them on a table, hang them from a tree branch, or create a bottle wind chime for a whimsical touch.  If you decide to take them outside, I would recommend weighing them down with rocks to prevent them from blowing away.

Remember to experiment with different ways to display your bottle crafts and find the arrangement that best suits your home and personal style. Be creative and have fun with it!  I have to say, I really enjoyed this simple craft myself.

Do you think you will try a charming DIY bottle craft that will add a touch of whimsy and personality to your home decor?  I have to admit, I think this is one of my favorites, despite the fact I had doubt in the beginning.  Also, can you tell I am so over summer, and ready for fall?  Although, I have never had so much color in our home until recently.
