How to Make a Tablecloth Wreath Using Plastic Tablecloths

How to Make a Tablecloth Wreath Using Plastic Tablecloths

Transform your space with a stunning tablecloth wreath made from plastic tablecloths.  Our DIY guide will show you how to create this colorful and budget friendly craft project.

Are you looking for an easy and affordable way to spruce up your home decor?  Consider making a tablecloth wreath using plastic tablecloths!  This fun and colorful craft project is perfect for adding a pop of color to any room, front door, or occasion, and it is so budget friendly too!

I cannot say I was a wreath kind of person in the past.  That is before my friend's wife sent over my lucky tote filled to the brim of possibilities.  I have to say, I feel so fortunate that she did.  It has allowed me to create so many projects and ideas using all of the supplies she gifted to me for free.

That box of treats has allowed me to really expand my creative horizons too.  The originality juices have been flowing, and I have to say I have more to share in the upcoming weeks.  I get more and more excited to share with you regular household items you may already have reimagined in new ways.  This upcycling idea and the many others have become my new favorite to share.

There have been many wreath shares, a Valentine's Day wreath, a spring wreath idea, a packing paper wreath, a hula hoop wreath, and even a sweet St. Patrick's Day wreath.  So it may not come as a surprise that I came up with yet another one for you, but this one comes from a whole different direction than what you may think of when making a wreath.

If you decide to try this one, Dollar Tree has wire wreath forms for $1.25 per form.  Perfect when creating on a budget.  I know I do not need to tell you this, but the price of well, everything is UP!  I mean way up!

Since I am not your typical blogger because I like to sprinkle real life in with my crafts too, I thought I would share I nearly fell over when I opened the most recent utility bill.  Since I worked for a utility company for many years, I am not always so surprised because we tend to forget that we are paying for usage from the previous month, and it is difficult to remember how the weather was from then, but woowee... I was stunned to say the least.

To heat our home, natural gas is cheaper than electric, and my heating bill was what our electric bills were last year.  Yuck!  Even though I worked in the industry, I am just like the next gal, I want to spend money on making my house pretty, not on something I cannot see, but I sure do like my toes nice and toasty when mother nature is whipping that cold wind about, even in May so I guess I will be paying the bill, darn it.  Yet again, I digress.

With everything seems to be on the rise, and so many of you have reached out recently indicating you have enjoyed our unplanned budget friendly crafts of late, I decided this was the perfect addition to our budget friendly crafts.

As I was ordering my groceries the other day, I decided to see what the party planning department had in stock.  I saw plaid and plain plastic tablecloths for $1.00!  I decided to add a few to my online cart, and see what I could come up with later.  I chose a pink, red, and white buffalo check, a black, white, and gray buffalo check plaid, then I added an all bubble gum pink plastic tablecloth to my cart and thought to myself, wonder what I can come up with?

At the time I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to create when I picked up the tablecloths, but I decided 3/$3.00, I could afford to figure it out later.  Yep, still on the no plan, plan.

What I found: I needed two tablecloths in order to make one full wreath.  Since I only picked up one each of the plaids, I mixed in the all pink tablecloth which created one very full wreath.

What you will need to do:  All you need to do is cut the tablecloth into strips, tie them around the wire form and that is all.  If you can a knot, you can make this wreath, it is really that easy.

How I measured my strips:  I left the tablecloth folded width wide, and unfolded it length wise as you can see below, I began cutting my strips through all of the layers with scissors.

I did this with the plaid and plain tablecloth so all of the strips would be the same length wise.  I did not measure out the width of my strips the further into this wreath I got, I am a wing it kind of gal, but if you cannot see yourself doing that, you can measure it out.  As you can see, I kept the strips to about 1 1 /2 inches in width.

You will have some strips that are still folded when you begin going through the strips and tying them off.  I cut them on the natural fold so all of the strips stayed the same width and length.

Lots and lots of strips!  I did not use both tablecloths in their entirety, it wasn't necessary.  I did decide to use the leftovers of the buffalo check to make a simple bow for our wreath though, you can see it a little further down.

When I had this crazy idea, I wasn't sure the wreath would work out so well with the pattern, but I think it adds a bit of "extra" to it.  It's kind of all over the place, which I tend to like.  No cookie cutter ideas here.

Here is what the back of the black toned wreath looks like.  Nothing fancy here, just feeding the strips around the wire, then tying it off into a knot.

I began with the black, white, and gray wreath, and I did use the rotary wheel thinking it would be easier to make my strips and measuring them out in the beginning.  I quickly learned I jam just not that patient.  I know, patience my dear Cara... but I do not have much of it when it comes to getting to the end in crafting, do I?

What can I say?  I am eager to see how these ideas will turn out so I can get to sharing more quickly with y'all.

So super simple!  You can make these wreaths, I promise.  I have found over the years my most enjoyable projects have been those that are A.  budget friendly, and B. simple to make.  The more steps a craft has, the more quickly I lose interest.

What do you think?  Would you make this sassy pants wreath?  I am so glad I decided to take a look at the party planning department when I was completing my grocery order for another fun filled crafty pants idea to share.  I also wanted to share, I found a whole roll of vinyl tablecloth material to make so many more crafts!

I feel like our front door says a lot about our personality.  For years our door was oh hum... yes, even me succumbed to the blah of door decorating purchasing already made up items, but these last few years I have really gotten into what I can draw folks in with from the street.

Not anymore, I proudly showcase some of my crazy ideas for the world to see.  Okay, in all honesty our street does not get a lot of traffic, and our house does sit back a ways from the street, but if you walk up to my front door, then you will totally be in for a treat with Cara's crazy creations.

I even decided to let the bow have a raw edge and thought it's like life, never perfect, sometimes a little tattered at the edges, but all tied up like the bow on a present.

Happy little accident, the tablecloths have a white middle, and then plaid sides, the loops of the bow are where the tablecloth was white down the center, and the ribbons are where it was plaid.  I went with it.  I mean, we are creating a wreath on a $3.00 budget so beggars can't be choosers.  Let us know what you think!  Would you give this one a try for $3.00?
