Seahorse crafts

Oh... my crafty adventures have been running wild lately, bouncing from the shores of summer to the twinkling lights of Christmas and back again.  I can barely keep up with the whirlwind of brainy ideas swirling in my head!  But fear not my friends, for I am here to share the fruits of my creative frenzy!

Now, let's shift our thoughts back to the sun-soaked days of summer, shall we?  While it may not be my absolute favorite season (I'm more of a cozy sweater weather kind of gal), I still delight in conjuring up ideas to make your summer more spectacular.

As I found myself perusing the virtual aisle of Dollar Tree's website, a wave of inspiration washed over me.  Oh, how I adore a good Dollar Tree craft, don't you?  So, I present to your my latest creation: seahorse napkin ring ideas!  They add that special touch to our dining room table settings, transforming a simple meal into a coastal-themed feast.  But first, I had to clear off the table long enough to snap a few pics before diving back into my lab - err, I mean dining table, turned craft area!

To make these delightful seahorse napkin rings, you'll need some Dollar Tree treasures.  Can you believe that shower curtain rings are the key ingredient?  Trust me, it works like a charm!

Summer DIY projects
I had a plan to use that Pringles can, but omitted it later

Materials:
  1. Dollar Tree shower curtain rings, 1 pack of 12
  2. Dollar Tree Seahorse wood ornaments
  3. Cinnamon
  4. Mod Podge
  5. Twine
  6. Sponge Brush
  7. Hot Glue
  8. Glue Gun

Instructions:
  • Glue two shower curtain rings on top of each other, repeating until you have a set of 6 fabulous napkin rings.  Set them aside to work your magic.
  • Now it's time to wrap the rings in twine.  I must confess, I attempted an unbroken twine look, but ended up in a tangle of knots, like a true crafting warrior.  Lesson learned: don't close the curtain ring completely; instead feed the twine through the opening so you can keep working around the ring without cutting the string.  Goodness gracious, some days I have to question my own crafting skills!
  • Once you've successfully wrapped the desired amount of twine around each ring, set them aside to bask in their twine-y glory.
  • Take your seahorse wood ornaments and give them a sleek makeover with black paint - I used Pavement by Apple Barrel.  Let them dry and set the stage for their transformation.  At this time, I also filled in the hole for on the seahorse with hot glue to create a perfectly level piece, no holes here!
  • Here comes the exciting part: adding a sprinkle of cinnamon!  Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the seahorses, then generously sprinkle them with cinnamon.  Embrace that delightful aroma!  Once you've coated them to your heart's content, seal it all with a couple more coats of Mod Podge.  No bugs will dare disturb this cinnamon-sealed masterpiece!  (Since I will be using this cinnamon for crafts, I added the leftover back into the jar).
  • After everything has dried to perfection, it's time to attach the seahorse to the top of each napkin ring using hot glue.  Give it a little dance of joy, because you've just created the perfect table accessory.
  • Oh, but I couldn't resist adding a touch of pizzazz!  Along the spine of the seahorse, I applied Antique Gold Rub-n-Buff for a fabulous pop of dimension.

Isn't he cute?

Can I tell you how thrilled I am with the end result!  I simply adore textures in my creations, but sometimes it takes a bit of effort to achieve that perfect look.  This project allowed me to check off a long-standing goal: a cinnamon-infused craft!  It turned out to be the ideal undertaking, as it was just the right size.  Yes, the twine wrapping can be a tad time-consuming, but I kept repeating the mantra "$2.50 for a set of six" in my mind, reminding myself of the budget-friendly summer crafts magic I was conjuring - even amidst the stringy mess I found myself in.

Creative table settings

Ahhh... the joy of embellishing a table setting!  Let your creativity know no bounds, my friend.  Scattering a few painted wooden anchors from Dollar Tree is a splendid idea, while adding a touch of nautical charm to our summer-themed table.  The adorable octopus cork board?  How about adding it as a centerpiece or even under your silverware place settings for a touch of whimsy?  To enhance the maritime ambiance, the brass trays reminiscent of life preserves are the perfect addition to complete this captivating tabletop display.  Let your imagination run wild as you create a fun-loving summer scene that will leave your guests in awe.

    1. I have so many ideas for the shower curtain rings now, the ole' brain is overflowing. I am so happy I tried the cinnamon, it was pleasant smelling to work with, and I loved the texture too. Thank you Debbie for visiting and your kind words. Your backyard is so well laid out, we basically have nothing now, but I am thinking it will stay that way until next year at this point.

  5. Me again, Cara!! want to stop by to thank you for your visits and kind words...I truly think that if we lived closer to each other, we would be great friends as we seem to have similar interests...My friend Anne Marie are like that and oddly enough, her and her husband sat in front of us in seats at our arena ( 5 minutes) away ) for Hockey games we both had season ticket seats! We started talking during intermissions and found that we had so much in common...I do wish she lived closer as she is about a good 25- 30 minute drive away and even though we are the same age, she is still working full time...
I hope you are staying cool...
    Hugs,
    Deb

    1. I think we would be wonderful friends too Debbie. :) I have been to one hockey game which was interesting, I had no idea it was so brutal! That is so nice you were able to meet through the games. Our hometown has very little available to us unless we are willing to drive 45 minutes to an hour. Some days I think I would enjoy living in a smaller town, and others, maybe a bit larger. Mayberry sounds good to me today. lol! Hope you are having a good start to your week. The air was full of smog here today, yuck!
