I got ahead of myself this week, not thinking about the fact St. Patrick's Day is around the corner!  Whew, good thing there was a mention of hey, can you believe how quickly time flies... and then I was off running wondering how I was going to create a quick St. Patty's Day craft to share with you today!

I guess it is a good thing I have been making so many wreaths here lately since I was actually a head of the game in that respect.  If you ever need something to preoccupy your time, then wreath making is for you.  I can seem to get lost in the art of making a tulle wreath for hours on end.  I also think it helps reduce stress, but that is just my personal opinion. 

Knotting off the tulle and moving on to the next piece time after time can be so satisfying, especially when you make it back around the wreath where you began.  Since I have shared so many wreaths and how to piece them together before, I decided to share how to give a simple wreath a bit of pizazz for any holiday.

See my completed St. Patrick's Day wreath?  I had added an ornament that came from my box of goodies, but then I decided I was not happy with the overall look of the wreath so away I went in scissoring off that ornamental piece and decided to go on a search.

An online search that is, which is why I ended up visiting my favorite site for vintage images, The Graphics Fairy.  Her site never disappoints, and I always seem to find what I am searching for whether it was on my agenda or not.  Some days I save images for future use not knowing exactly what I will do with them.

Are you wondering if we will be making another free art wall hanging for our foyer?   I can assure we are not... I decided to go in another route in creating a little something different than my normal.  Oh don't get me wrong, I love creating free wall art, it is one of my favorite things to do!

The Graphics Fairy

    

I decided I would find a way to attach this perfect vintage image to my St. Patty's Day wreath.  I wondered aloud, how hard can this be?  To which there was no response, only an aloof look from Bentley where I am certain he agreed with me, or perhaps he was thinking this crazy momma I am stuck with, what is she up to now?

Once my image was printed, I knew I needed something to attach the paper to something with a bit more substance.  What better way to do this than recycle a piece of cardboard from my husband's Fiddle Faddle box?  No sense throwing it out when I can reuse it. 

I went to work in cutting down my image, and then the box to fit the size of my perfect vintage St. Paddy's Day sweetheart, and finally glued this gal to the cardboard with a glue stick.  Yep, a glue stick!  So easy, anyone can do this, and I am betting you can create one for yourself too.  

Oh, did I mention graphics from the site are FREE?  You got that right, free!  I love free, and so I encourage you to click the link above and find your own slice of vintage heaven.  

I think the thing I love most about creating at home is that you just use what you already have.  Could I have printed this image on heavy duty cardstock and skipped the step of cutting and gluing?  Yes, I absolutely could, but then this box would end up in the trash which would end then end up in a landfill.  Why not save us all and just use it in my crafts?  Or that is my thought anyway.

I have stated this before, no fancy pants, new age items for our crafts.  I just use what I already have laying around the house to make the majority of the fun things we make around here.  Like for instance, I could not locate my hole puncher, one of these days I promise all of the craft items will all be located in one room, organized, so I can find what I need when I need it.  Until that day comes, I improvise...  

As you can see, in a pinch, I used a wood skewer to create a hole in our vintage St. Patty's Day image.  Then I fed a green pipe cleaner through the hole to attach our image and simple green bow to our wreath by twisting the pipe cleaner around the wires of our wreath form in the back of the wreath.

I thought about trying my hand at creating a fancy pants bow, but then decided I wanted our gal to be the star of the show.  I mean, she is pretty cute with her bonnet, little Mary Jane's, and skirt full of clovers to spread cheer and good luck to all.  

For an off the cuff project, I really love the way this wreath turned out.  Just like our little lady, this project is a skirt full of clovers just waiting to be shared with you today.  Sometimes I work best under the gun with a deadline.  Is there anyone else out there like that?  I know there is, raise your hand, shhh... we won't tell. 

Other days I do not work so well under pressure.  In all honesty, I think it really depends on what I am doing or working on.  I had to work under pressure for years while I worked outside our home, and somehow I did it day in and day out, but I have to say this more relaxed lifestyle I could really get used to.  

Years of rolling from one project to the next took it's toll on me.  I didn't sleep well, I would wake in the middle of the night wondering did I send that email?  Did I call that person back?  You know those people who are perfectionists?  Well, I am one of those people.  I know some folks would think, oh well, it can wait until tomorrow, but I am not one of those people.  I like to think it was one of the reasons why some folks enjoyed working with me.  They knew I would get the job done as quickly as possible and move on to the next waiting disaster.  I digress... hopefully this little project gives you an idea for a wreath for your front door or walls, or even as a gift.  

Now, isn't she a cutie?  While this is not the exact project I had in mind when I initially began, I am so happy it turned out this way.  Our little wreath can easily be changed into a Christmas wreath with all of the green and white by changing up the image.  Space saving, and easy on the pocketbook projects at their best which are always my favorite kind.  

Ahh.. maybe one of these days I will get around to touching up our door, I see where I scratched it and a bit of blue is peeking at us.  Oh well, perfectly imperfect, that is how I roll around here.  I also still need to fix those privacy glass panels.  Maybe some day soon.  Do you get the feeling we never use our front door?  You would be right to guess that.  I am amazed I remember to change out the wreath for the seasons.  Hope you enjoyed this simple St. Patrick's Day wreath project, let us know if you plan to make one.
