What do you put on your mantel?

I wanted a large focal point above the mantel.  Have you looked at the price of large framed photos?  My goodness, I am too frugal for that!  So I thought about what I wanted for this room and what I wanted to display above the mantel.  After a lot of thought and consideration, I came up with a photo I took when we were on vacation.

As I have said before, I am in LOVE with architecture and detail.  Do you know this urn like piece is on top of a very large wall/fence in Newport, Rhode Island?  If you ever have the opportunity to visit this area, I highly recommend visiting purely for the beauty of the homes and detail put into these mansions and grounds.

If you have an At Home store in your area and have never visited one, I would suggest taking a gander around the store.  I purchased the poster frame for $19.99.  Talk about a lot of bang for your buck!  Then I needed to get a copy of the photo in poster size.  A picture this size can be quite expensive, but can you believe I pulled this off for $9.99?  I had it printed as a poster on Vista Print's website.  This is a great website to do all sorts of projects on.  I have had custom calendars printed for loved ones with precious subject matter, yes, our loved four legged child of course! I have also had a poster printed for our basement, invitations, stationary, pens... your creativity can go far on this site.  They usually have sales, especially this time of year!

So there you have it, for abut $30.00 you can have that large piece of art for your wall for not a lot of money.  It's not how much you spend on your home, but what makes you happy.  I like to surround myself with things that make winding down after a long day pleasant.  I am not one to purchase random pictures of places I have never visited or people I do not know.  I want memories to surround me everyday.  I can remember the day I took that picture and how traipsing around Newport made me feel. It was quite enjoyable and brings a smile to my face every time I think about it.

Oh, and YES, I am getting the house ready for Christmas!  It is my favorite time of year of course!  You can see snippets of it in my pictures... 🎄
