How to DIY sea glass

Searching for ideas on how to bring summer indoors?  Here we have a really easy project on how to DIY a sea glass vase.

Do you love walking along the beach, picking up sea glass and seashells?  Whenever I visit the beach, I always pick up whatever I can find while walking along the shore.  Be it sea glass, shells, rocks... I always have at least one item I bring home with me as a memento of that trip.

Sea glass is always at the top of my list.  I love the broken glass and how the edges have rounded over time... weathered and worn... frosted all over... the bluish green is my favorite!  I decided to try Rust-Oleum's Sea Mist spray paint to see if I could bring the sea to me...

I always have extra vases laying around here for some reason and you know what?  They are super affordable to make over too!  You can find them at your local thrift store typically from $.99 - $3.00 per vase.  They are not so large you can easily store them and change them out with your decor all year long.  I do enjoy changing up our home decor often to go along with the seasons...

I cleaned up an old vase with soap and hot water, then completely dried the outside and inside.  I took the vase and paint outside and began spray painting the vase.  I let it dry outside, but it was so humid, I ended up bringing it inside so it did not feel so sticky to the touch.

Mr. Vintage came downstairs and asked if I had painted my nails... when I replied no, I had not, he said why does it smell in here like you did?  I laughed and said I have been busy again... he said well, it is strong and is giving me a headache!  I told him I had painted a vase, his reply?  Great...

It is the way things are around here... he knows I am always up to something... making something over, or crafting.  Taking an item on it's last leg and giving it new life is my favorite though.  It becomes my new favorite piece all over again. This vase is a good example of that… found in our basement neglected on a shelf, now is pretty again on the dining room table.

This is my first experience working with this paint and achieving a sea glass look. I think less coats may have worked out better for a more frosted look. This is pretty opaque, I do like it, but my next project will hopefully be more of a frosted look than opaque, or that is what I am aiming for anyway...

Since summer is right around the corner, I have been thinking about vacations... Maine and Rhode Island are always at the top of my list when I think about the water.  I have been to Florida and the Carolinas many times and not one of those trips compare to visiting the upper east coast...  The weather is much cooler which is what we prefer and the atmosphere is just so much more lax...

I've shared with you before, my sister is the avid traveler... me?  I prefer being at home... I enjoy seeing new sights, but I love being able to sleep in my own bed... and peanut?  We could never leave him home now that he has become a part of our family...

Although, I have been seeing more hotels pop up that are allowing pets to visit, but I am assuming they are under the impression you have a well behaved pup you are bringing into their establishment.  We all know this peanut is not that... so home is where you will find us for the time being.  And you know what?  I am perfectly ok with that...

We enjoy making our home the place we want to be and never leave.  It makes you feel like you are on vacation everyday when you love being at home... that is the plan, making this home our vacation spot we just so happen get to live in... sounds idyllic, doesn't it?

I liked this vase last night, but it is continuing to grow on me more and more... it was late last night when I finished up.  I used the roses I use for so many projects around here and pulled flowers from another arrangement I have here.

Yep, I think this is just what we needed to brighten things up here in the dining room... and you know what?  It looks like it will go in the living room too.  It is funny when you are picking up those thrift store vases and you think they are just oh hum... but when they get their make over?  You think wow, this item was only $.99 and it really dresses up our table quite nicely... now those, are my favorite kind of projects!  You can see I have our unique decor "antique" pieces on the table too... still makes me chuckle to think my mom thought they were real antiques.  It is what I strive for, to get people interested in things I collect and hopefully inspire you to decorate your own home, but always keeping that budget in mind while doing it.  😉
